Winona Minnesota to Viroqua Wisconsin - 66 Miles
By Erwin:
Today was a top ten day; we rode alongside the Mississippi, cross the mighty river and enjoyed a wonderful last 20 miles through Amish country valleys and rolling hills.
Early in the ride, we got a nice treat from some of the people in one town we rode through; they made us great coffee, brownies, cookies, as well as fresh fruit. They were the cutest people, living just on the banks of the river. One of the family members had ridden the ride in 2000 in honor of another family member that died of lung disease and they are still involved with the ride. All in all, a really nice surprise.
After we crossed the river, we started climbing through some hills (some of which looked great: rocky peaks, overgrown with lush greenery). It was fun to climb and descent again.
After this great break from the monotony, we reached camp early enough to squeeze in a visit to the cinema; a great way to get our minds off riding for a bit!
Tomorrow is a long day (109 miles). We're back on route 14, which has been our preferred road for almost two states now! Tomorrow might be tough toward the end.

What a fun and short day, filled with surprises. Surprise #1 was the family that made a rest stop for us that Erwin talked about. Surprise #2 was the crossing over the Mississippi, surprise #3 was the Amish country, and the final surprise was that all day I thought that the ride was 75 miles long, so when Erwin stopped biking at mile 70, I was happily surprised that we were done already!
